The Academy is free, but spaces are limited.
In three weeks, attendees will learn essential leadership skills as well as the basics of climate science, community organization, and policy advocacy.
Monte Sereno General Plan Update
Third and Final Survey Is Live!
The project team has opened its third (and final) General Plan survey! Survey questions will cover the topics of transportation, open space, environmental justice, and more. Your input is crucial, as it will help us shape General Plan policies in order to reflect residents’ lifestyles, future opportunities, and key concerns.

Help Shape the Next Phase of the General Plan
With the Health & Safety Element adopted on December 2, 2025, the project team is now focusing on the Policy Framework and updates to the remaining elements of the General Plan. The elements include Land Use, Circulation, Open Space/Conservation, and more. Environmental Justice is a new state requirement and will be addressed throughout the elements.
This spring, the Draft Policy Framework will be published online. The Draft Policy Framework will outline the goals, policies, and actions of the 2008 General Plan and will propose updates that are necessary to meet new requirements in State law. The project team will provide the Draft Policy Framework and the Public Review Draft General Plan in a Joint Site and Architectural Commission/City Council Study Session in Spring 2026. General Plan adoption is planned for summer 2026.
The Santa Clara County Fire Department offers the CERT Academy to train residents on disaster preparedness skills. In the event of a disaster or public safety emergency, CERT volunteers will be able to assist their family and neighbors when first responders are not immediately available to help.
Participants will learn disaster preparedness, disaster medical operations, disaster psychology, fire suppression, light search and rescue, and terrorism awareness. Registration preference is given to those that reside in our jursidictional cities and towns. Read more below....
This training course is open to individuals who live or work within the communities served by Santa Clara County Fire Department: Cupertino, Campbell, Los Gatos, Monte Sereno, San Martin, Saratoga, Los Altos, Los Altos Hills, and the unincorporated surrounding areas.

2026 CERT Academy ScheduleWe are excited to announce that the Santa Clara Library District (SCCLD) is bringing Dolly Parton's Imagination Library to Santa Clara County! This worldwide effort mails free age-appropriate books (in English or Spanish) to children under the age of 5 every month, with a goal of sparking a lifetime love of reading.
Children under age 5 can sign up at sccld.org/imaginationlibrary to receive a free age-appropriate book every month mailed to their homes, starting 6-8 weeks after enrolling.
This program is open to all kids in the county. No library card is required and you can live in any part of the county. It's never too early to introduce your little ones to books. Visit the library to enjoy storytimes and check out books for yourself and your children.
Dolly's efforts have led to a quarter billion kids receiving books through the mail. We are proud to be partners with her in this effort.
The City of Monte Sereno is preparing a Senate Bill (SB) 10 Ordinance, which is required as part of the 6th Cycle Housing Element, adopted in May 2024. Two lots were identified for rezoning according to SB 10 regulations, which allow these parcels to potentially be developed with up to 10 units each.
What is SB 10?
The goal of SB 10 is to streamline housing developments by allowing cities in California to allow different development types. This means that through SB 10, the City can rezone parcels to allow up to 10 residential units on one lot. Program Q Process
The process of adopting SB 10 will include public hearings with the Site and Architectural Commission and the City Council. More information about these meetings will be available once they are scheduled.
In addition, the City will develop a process for interested property owners to request rezoning for their property to allow for SB 10 housing. More details will be provided about the rezoning process at future community outreach and engagement events.

The City of Monte Sereno has begun its General Plan Update! Go to MonteSerenoGPU.com to receive newsletter updates and learn more about this important project, which will update the City’s foundational policy document to accommodate changes in state law. The last update was in 2008, and the City is working with M-Group (based in Campbell) to work with the Monte Sereno community on guiding changes in the document for future generations of residents.
