Bicycle and Pedestrian Master Plan

Monte Sereno Bicycle & Pedestrian Master Plan

Master Plans are designed to guide the future actions of a community by establishing long-range strategies focused on community development and sustainability.  This year, the City of Monte Sereno is updating the Bicycle and Pedestrian Master Plan that was completed in 2016.

The 2016 plan was developed in conjunction with the Town of Los Gatos as a multi‐purpose plan intended to provide an enhanced bicycle and pedestrian network to create safe access throughout a city and townwide network for all.

The 2022 updated plan will provide improved mobility and further connectivity, leading to a more robust bicycle pedestrian network. The City of Monte Sereno is dedicated to making bicycling and pedestrian safety a priority.

What is a Bicycle & Pedestrian Master Plan?

Communities throughout California are exploring improvements that help make bicycling and walking a safer, healthier, and more equitable option for daily transportation needs. The City of Monte Sereno is happy to announce the City-specific update to the 2016 Bicycle and Pedestrian Master Plan (BPMP) to help improve the comfort and safety of non-motorized modes of travel. The BPMP process includes an existing conditions analysis and community engagement to help develop recommendations that best meet Monte Sereno’s needs. Please participate and tell us how you would like to make walking and biking safer in your community!

What are the goals of the Plan?

  • Identify gaps in the active transportation network
  • Assess safety and comfort
  • Engage with community members and stakeholders
  • Develop recommendations for bike and pedestrian infrastructure

How will the Plan be used to improve Monte Sereno?

  • Provide a comprehensive look at transportation across Monte Sereno
  • Identify community‐based transportation priorities
  • Inform decision-making associated with implementing bicycle and pedestrian programs and infrastructure improvements

What’s the project location and scope?

The Plan includes all transportation modes throughout Monte Sereno and will analyze walking, biking, access to transit and other travel patterns.

What role will the public and stakeholders play in the planning process?

The BPMP update will be guided by input received from the community and project stakeholders. A survey is available online and in hard copy during the project development to solicit input from the community. Additionally, members of the project team will be at the City Picnic to connect with community members and get feedback.

The project will also engage the City Better Streets Commission as the project’s main stakeholder advisory group. The Commission will provide ideas and strategies to engage with the community, identify important sensitivities and topics to consider regarding the conditions, history, and needs of the community, and provide feedback on plan concepts.
