Proposed Water Rate Increases
San Jose Water is regulated by the California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) and serves over one million customers in the San Jose, Campbell, Cupertino, Los Gatos, Monte Sereno, and Saratoga communities. Every three years, San Jose Water is required by law to file a General Rate Case (GRC) application to adjust water rates. The proposed rate adjustments must be reviewed and approved by the CPUC, following a robust and transparent process that spans about 12 months. On January 2, 2024, San Jose Water filed GRC Application U168W to adjust water rates for the years 2025-2027. The application requests authorization to increase rates charged for water service by $55,196,000 or 11.11% in 2025, by $22,041,000 or 3.99% in 2026, and by $25,809,000 or 4.49% in 2027.

The Monte Sereno City Council has appointed Councilmember Bryan Mekechuk to represent Monte Sereno residents in reviewing and potentially protesting these rate increases.
