Chapter 9.08 BARRIERS FOR SWIMMING POOLS, SPAS AND HOT TUBS
9.08.020 Definitions.
For the purpose of this Section, certain terms, words and phrases are
defined as follows:
A. "Swimming pool" is any structure intended for
swimming or recreational bathing that contains water over eighteen (18) inches
deep. "Swimming pool" includes in-ground and aboveground structures and
includes but is not limited to hot tubs, spas, portable spas, and nonportable
wading pools.
B. "Enclosure" means a fence, wall, or other barrier that
isolates a swimming pool from access to the home.
C. "Exit alarm" means
devices that make audible, continuous alarm sound when any door or window that
permits access from the residence to the pool area that is without any
intervening enclosure, is opened or is left ajar. "Exit alarms" may be battery
operated or may be connected to the electrical wiring of the
building.
D. "Approved safety swimming pool cover" means pool covers that
meet the requirements for swimming pool, spa and hot tub safety covers as listed
below. The standard listed below is a recognized standard.
ASTM F 1346-91, Standard Performance Specification for Safety Covers and
Labeling Requirement for All Covers for Swimming Pools, Spas and Hot
Tubs.
